Welcome to our blog!  We hope to be your quality Extravaganza Collection
resource for all  organic skin care questions.  We
love mineral cosmetics too and want to get into
discussions with you and your friends.  Lets really
get the board rockin’.  There will be videos posted
and before and after picture too.

We want to be a resource blog so you can learn and ask questions related to all things cosmetic - that includes skincare too of course.

Any makeup artists out there want to chat with us?
We would love to have you here!

We are learning about videos creation. Had to share our first try at it. Now we can get into the informative cosmetics videos you’ve been asking for!

Hot pink is the color of the season, on nails (from my last post) to lips. Check out this great video from filthy gorgeous makeup on how to create a dramatic look with hot pink lips.

Summer is just around the corner, and that definitely means busting out the flip flops and showing those toes off on a daily basis.

Keep those puppies up to date with the trends by wearing the hottest shades of the season: bright neons, pretty pastels, and subtle neutrals. It’s easy to find shades that are great for a hot summer pool party or stuffy day at the conservative office.

Nail color is easy to accessorize with as it doesn’t cost much to buy a slew of colors and you can change colors on whim and when you fancy!

A lovely video on lilac and green eye makeup from Filthy Gorgeous Makeup. Enjoy!

Research is showing that more and more of us are forgoing beauty salon treatments in favor of using all natural moisturizers.

Facial moisturizers have become the fastest growing sector of beauty products, as more women and men are realizing the benefits of a balanced and healthy complexion.

But now, we are also looking to get more out of our moisturizer than simply hydration. Consumers are now demanding added benefits such as anti-aging ingredients, antioxidants and high SPF that make using one product have multiple benefits.

Thank goodness someone has heard our cry. Now more than ever you can find organic moisturizers on the market that supply all of these needs and more!

Finally! There is a magazine that caters to what we all care about – organic beauty and cosmetics in Organic Beauty.

“A one-time beauty editor of the New York Times Magazine and former editorial director of Elle, she says that “going green is no longer just a trend, it’s a lifestyle.” As for her fresh-faced new mag, she says it will “provide a smart, sophisticated resource for women who want to cut through the confusion and find more natural alternatives.”

Editorial coverage in every issue will include some of our favorite topics, including natural and organic skin, hair, nail and oral-care products; organic foods, herbs, supplements, elixirs and fitness strategies; natural alternatives to cosmetic surgery and injectables; sustainable beauty, fashion and style trends, as well as beauty bargains, up-to-the-minute news and breakthroughs.”

Thanks to Organic Authority for the magazine information.

Summer is coming up, which means making sure you always have plenty of sunscreen on hand to protect from the sun. This year, consumers are being advised to apply sunscreen generously rather than choose an ultra-high SPF cream.

Every year, more and more 100+ SPF sunscreens flood the market, and many people believe that they need to use a very high factor product in order to be protected from UV rays.

This is false. No sunscreen offers absolute protection, and while the higher numbers sound impressive, they really do not mean much in terms of sun safety.

Here’s a better way to explain SPF values and the amount of UVB rays blocked:

SPF % UVB rays blocked
SPF100 99%
SPF50 98%
SPF25 96%
SPF15 93%

You can see that there is actually not much difference between SPF15 and SPF100 – at least a lot less difference than the SPF figure appears to represent. The fact is, as long as they are properly applied, most sun lotions offers quite a high level of protection and so it just isn’t necessary for most of us to use an ultra-high SPF sunscreen.

Remember these tips:

  • Don’t underestimate how much sunscreen you need to apply to cover the entire body – a full ounce. This is equivalent to a shot glass.
  • Re-apply every 2 hours and after swimming or strenuous exercise
  • SPF100 offers only 3% more protection than SPF25

Thanks to Green People for the sunscreen info.

The Green Living Show took place in Toronto April 23 to April 25, 2010. Over 20,000 green consumers swarmed one place in order to learn about the latest in green products and sustainable living.

There were a variety of green vendors – with over 400 exhibitors. Things to see and take part of included windmills to power your homes, solar panels for your roof, organic cosmetics and food, and green cleaning products among others.

Events like these deliver environmental education to the masses and help green communities in our collective effort to reduce our carbon footprint. Visit their website to find future dates and be a part of loving our Earth.

Don’t want to pay for a pricey eye cream? Slice up raw potatoes and place them on  your eyes to reduce puffiness.

Fight dry skin with bananas or avocados. Mash 1/2 ripe banana or avocado and spread on a clean face. Let sit for 15 minutes then rinse well.

Tone with tea. Green tea is a perfect toner for acne prone skin as it is refreshing and cleansing.

Create a mashed potato foot soak. Get a box of dehydrated mashed potatoes and follow the recipe. Once you have the spuds made, add lukewarm or hot water to get it to the temperature you need for a foot soak. The potatoes retain heat longer than a regular foot bath and therefore help reduce swelling and soften skin.

Bonus: This same concept can be used with Oatmeal. Oatmeal will soothe and deeply restore dry and cracked feet. Add essential oils for added benefits!

Go ahead. Mossy on up to that kitchen cabinet of yours, pull out the honey, and make yourself gorgeous! Here’s how:

  1. Hair conditioner – massage 1 tbsp of pure honey into your damp hair after shampooing. Rinse out with warm water. Honey is a natural humectant which means it pulls moisture into your hair and keeps it there
  2. Bubble bath – mix together 1 cup water, 1/2 cup honey, and 1/2 cup liquid soap, then pour under a running bath. The honey will moisturize and soften your skin
  3. Face Mask – simply spread honey on a clean face and let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Honey is ideal for healing acne prone and dry skin, is a powerful antioxidant, and has antibacterial properties which make is so powerful in combating breakouts
